Born in 1955 in York, Pennsylvania, Jeff Koons became one of the most important, but contraversial living artists. Since his emergence in the 1980s Jeff Koons has blended the concerns and methods of Pop and Conceptual art with popular culture to create his own unique iconography. Often working with everyday objects, his work revolves around themes of self-acceptance and transcendence. He started working in a quite similar mode as Andy Warhol‘s Factory (a method known as art fabrication. See also A.P. Astra). He visualized his concepts in numerious serias like: Statuary series, Luxury and Degradiation series, Banality, Made in Heaven ( Koons celebrated, in explicit sexual terms, his union with wife Ilona Staller, the Italian porn star and politician known as La Cicciolina. Depicting the pair as a contemporary Adam and Eve.), Puppy, Celebration, Popeye and Hulk Elvis, Antiquity.
The Greek real estate mogul Dakis Ioannou is regarded as the most important supporter of Jeff Koons, whose largest collection he owns. He bought his first painting of Koons 1985 for 2700 $. Koons’ works are exhibited throughout the world and are found in numerous public and private collections.
Koons lives and works in New York City.
